Changes next year – final notice. This posting is to let you all know this is exactly what will be changed next year so there is no one saying, when did this change happen? When was this made on because I don’t pay attention in the off-season? The changes are being finalized here unless you make a strong case against if you don’t agree.

Here they are:

1) The buy-in for next year will be $20.

Reasoning: We didn’t come to an agreement but that seems to be the number that most are comfortable with so I am going to finalize it at that amount. Added to that we will continue to push half the pot forward each year. And the playoff teams can decide how to pay out the pot.

2) The lottery will be even odds for all non-playoff teams (5th-10th place).

Reasoning: We wanted to get rid of the weighed system that rewards poor performance with better odds. If you trade away your team for keepers, we don’t want to give a double bonus by giving better playoffs odds. Additionally it encourages you to play out your games and not tank on purpose. I had originally proposed teams 2-10 get even odds. We came to a tentative agreement of even odds for non-playoff teams instead. And yes, this lotto does not include the 4th place team. I know Travis thought the 4th place team should get something, and they do….a better draft spot than the 3rd place team.

3) We agreed to not change the DEF, special teams and return TD rules as we have them.

4) Change to keeper rules — Allow for off-season trading of rostered players.

Reasoning: I’m invoking my comish powers of this one similar to the waiver change last year because I have had several people requested this. At first I was not for it because of the headaches it creates from a comish perspective but Yahoo recently updated the tools which makes it easier so I say we give it a shot for this next season and see if it works. The reasoning for it is it does make the off-season a little more fun and keeps people engaged. It also strengthens competition because the trade deadline creates a situation where nonperforming teams can basically dictate terms of trades for keepers and force moves. That is not the intent of the system. Here is the amended rules.

1. After the season ends, I will record all team rosters on the blog. That will be your active off-season roster.
2. You are free to email managers and talk to managers about trades openly.
3. You can trade a draft pick in the upcoming draft for a player as long as the player and the pick don’t have the same round value. For example, Russ can’t trade Foster to Greg for his 1st round pick because Greg needs to use the pick to keep Foster.
4. If a trade is agreed on, it is posted on the message board for review. When posted, you must make an argument for the trade for both managers as to why they are trading for these players. It must center around how it helps both teams. This is to ensure managers don’t just throw their extra keepers to their bud because they can’t keep more than 3 guys.
5. After approval, the rosters will be updated and the players will be marked with a note. The managers will now own the rights to those players as if they were on their roster at the end of the season (all current keeper rules apply).

The yahoo league is back up. Join! We won’t be scheduling the draft date until the labor situation gets finalized but there is plenty we can discuss in the meantime.

Lottery odds:

Since the way it is set up right now, it is not in your best interest to do well in the consolation championships. That isn’t the way it should be. I propose that for the 5th-10th place teams, we use their final regular season standings to determinate for odds on their draft position. That way no one is “punished” for trying to grab the consolation title.

Fumbles and Interceptions:

We propose to change fumbles lost to two and interceptions to two as well and get rid of unlost fumbles.

If anyone disagrees, please post. If not, these changes will go into effect next season.

• The first is both managers have to be present at the draft to pick the player for the other person since we can’t trade picks in the draft system.
• Two, it has to be posted on the draft board at least 24 prior to the draft for league evaluation. No  in-draft trades.  Any deals inside of the 24-hour window will be considered a post-draft trade and be subject to the league review process as such.
• And three, it has to be a one for one draft position or player swap if pick order is involved. I don’t want it to get convoluted and confusing where one guy is trading his 2nd and 4th to swap 1st round positions. That just too hard to keep track of and enforce as a commish.

So to explain further through an example, if Greg wants to trade Forte before the draft and comes to an agreement with Manager X for his 5th pick, he can do so. The two managers would have to post the potential trade 24 hours prior to the draft for review by the league. If the trade is not rejected for a valid reason, Greg would have to declare Forte as one of his keepers, use one of his three available keeper contracts on Forte, and he would count Forte as his 9th round pick as if he was his own keeper. In the live draft, when it is Manager X’s turn to pick in the 5th round, Greg would post in the live chat who Manager X should select for him. After the draft concludes, the two managers must complete their trade by exchanging the players. No further review by the league would be needed.

One thing we can’t allow is managers trading players for multiple picks and multiple exchanges of pick positions because it too difficult to implement and keep track of.
